Legumes, nuts & seeds for babies and toddlers
Beans, lentils, chickpeas and tofu are affordable sources of protein and iron, and they mash easily for new eaters. Peanuts, tree nuts and sesame are priority allergens: offer them as smooth nut butter or tahini thinned into porridge or yogurt, or as finely ground nuts, and keep whole nuts off the menu for children under 5. If your baby has severe eczema or a known food allergy, talk to your paediatrician before introducing them.
