Ingredients

  • 1 ripe medium banana
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (ground or whole)

Method

  1. Mash banana thoroughly with a fork.
  2. Whisk in the egg, then stir in oats to form a batter.
  3. Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium-low heat.
  4. Pour batter to make 3-inch pancakes. Cook for 2-3 mins per side until set.

How to serve by age

6–8 months

Slice pancake into finger-width strips. Hold-size check: it should stick out above a closed fist, which is what the palmar (whole-hand) grasp needs at this stage.

9–12 months

Cut into small bite-sized squares. These smaller pieces are sized for the pincer grasp (thumb and forefinger) that develops around 9 months.

Paediatric note

Never add honey or added sugars to baby pancakes under 12 months; ripe banana provides ideal natural sweetness.
