Allergen note
Citrus fruit is not a common allergen, though its acidity can cause a red rash around the mouth or in the diaper area that is usually harmless. Offer tangerine from 12 months, starting with a few small pieces, and watch for any reaction.
How to serve
From 12 months, peel the tangerine and offer segments cut into small bite-sized pieces, on their own or stirred into plain yogurt. Once your toddler bites and chews confidently, segments cut in half lengthwise work well as finger food.
Preparation
Wash the tangerine, peel it and pull off the stringy white pith. Remove any seeds; for younger toddlers, slit each segment and scoop out the soft flesh or cut away the tough membrane. If you use canned mandarin segments, choose ones packed in juice or water, not syrup.
Texture and choking risk
Whole segments are slippery, and their membranes can be stringy and hard to chew. Cut segments into small pieces, remove every seed, and keep your child seated and supervised while eating.

Starting ages are typical guidance for healthy, full-term babies who show signs of readiness. Your paediatrician may advise differently, especially where there is a family history of allergy.
Track first tastes and reactions
Log when your child first tries tangerine, note any reaction and see it in the allergen tracker.
